- Zhang Anzhi (1911-1990) was a well-known modern Chinese scholar-artist and a professor of the history of art at the Central Academy of Fine Art in Beijing. He visited Britain from 1946 to 1949. He probably made the painting during his exhibition at the Derby Museum and Art Gallery in 1949. The picture is transferred from the Buxton Museum and Art Gallery to the V&A under the Closure of School Library Service project in 2018.
