Brief description:
Textile, Welsh Costume. North Wales shape? 1830-60 ? Diameter of brim 36.7 cms, height 21 cms. Rigid base, buckram, covered with black plush material, brushed. Black corded ribbon around base of crown with bow fastening. Lined with stiffened cream silk; lower edge of interior with 10cm deep striped blue and gold silk backed paper. Maker's name in crest inside top of crown 'MOLLODY, LONDON - WATERPROOF' black ties. 'J.P.' crudely written in pen below crest. Poor condition. Brim fabric lifting away on both sides, worn on one side probably where handled. Lower side of brim fabric with some moth damage. Blue and gold striped lining stained and discoloured badly along lower edge. Black ties recent addition. Crown with dent two thirds up.
