Object name(s):
vessel; Trevisker ware bucket urn; Bronze Age pot
Brief description:
This bucket-shaped urn is the largest prehistoric pot to be found in Devon. It was found during the construction of a housing estate near Newton Abbot and had to be very carefully pieced together and conserved. Pieces of burnt bone were found with the urn suggesting that it was used as part of a cremation burial. A ‘belt’ of clay with six lugs has been added around the centre of the pot and above this band much of the put is decorated with combed lines. Inside, a cross of clay has been attached to the base, this may have been decoration or to add strength. This object is not on display.
