- Major R. J. Maitland Coffin MD was initiated into freemasonry in the Savage Club Lodge, No. 2190 in 1887. He went on to found several lodges and was active in Royal Arch as well as many side degrees. In 1902 he was made Past Assistant Grand Director of Ceremonies. He was also a member of Quatuor Coronati Lodge, No. 2076. A military surgeon, he eventually achieved the rank of Major in the Royal Army Medical Corps.
