Object name(s):
Matchbox cover
Brief description:
A matchbox case with a painting of White Hall, Clifton Road, Rugby by Elizabeth Sarah Ann Cox. The case is made from metal and would fully cover the top and bottom of a large box of matches. The sides are left largely open to allow the matches to be struck on the side of the box. The top of the case features a painting, possibly done in oil, of a white-walled thatched house. In the foreground there are two people, probably women in long dresses. On the base of the matchbox is a handwritten label which reads: 'White Hall, Clifton Road, Warwickshire. By Elizabeth Sarah Ann Cox. Rugby.'
