Person's biographical note:
Poole Pottery evolved from two 19th century ceramic factories in Dorset (James Walker and the Architectural Pottery Co.) both of which were purchased by Jesse Carter in 1873 and 1895 respectively. The business then developed art pottery under the management of Jesse\'s sons, Owen and Charles, until 1921 when Charles entered a partnership with Harold Stabler and John Adams. During the 1920s, 30s and 40s a range of vases and tableware was produced incorporating hand-painted floral decoration after the designs of Harold Stabler, Truda Carter, John Adams and others. After the war new designers, such as Alfred Read and Guy Sydenham, created freeform shapes with simple abstract designs until the richly coloured Delphis range predominated during the 1960s and 70s. The pottery also produced tiles, figures and wall plaques
