Brief description:
Silver coloured metal medal. On the obverse central to the design is a relief depiction of a robed female figure wearing a crown and a collar jewel with a set square. In her right hand she is holding a flag and her left hand is resting upon a shield bearing a relief depiction of a double headed eagle surmounted by a shield, which is divided into quarters by a Greek cross. Behind the figure is a column mounted by a relief letter 'J', in front of which is a wreath encircling relief text reading '1878 / 1903'. Encircling the whole design is a border mounted by relief depictions of masonic emblems. These include a Seal of Solomon, heraldic roses, pair of compasses, trowel, gavel, rough ashlar, open book, perfect ashlar, level, and a set square. On the reverse central to the design is relief text reading 'ПосВеЋеНо 1903 ГоДИНе јеДИНој саДа акТИВНој срПској ЛоЖИ ПоБраТИМ у БеоГраДу, за усПоМеНу На уВођеЊе сЛоБоДНоГ ЗИДарсТВа у СрБИјИ 1878 ГоДИНе.'. To the left of this is an oval inside which is a six-pointed star with clasped hands beneath it, enclosed by a set square and compass. On each side of this is a sprig of laurel and surmounting the set square and compass is a crown.

The Serbian text 'ПосВеЋеНо 1903 ГоДИНе јеДИНој саДа акТИВНој срПској ЛоЖИ ПоБраТИМ у БеоГраДу, за усПоМеНу На уВођеЊе сЛоБоДНоГ ЗИДарсТВа у СрБИјИ 1878 ГоДИНе.' translates as ‘Dedicated in the year 1903 to the active Serbian Lodge ‘Probatim’, No. 1 in Belgrade in memory of the introduction of freemasonry in Serbia in the year 1878’.

As most items are manufactured in the same year they are presented, date of manufacture for this medal is taken to be the same as its presentation date. Please note this manufacture date is speculative as occasionally items are manufactured before or even after the date of presentation.

The cataloguing of the medal collection at the Library and Museum of Freemasonry was supported by a grant from Arts Council England in 2013.
