- Lubbock (1803-1865) was the first Vice-Chancellor of the University of London, 1836-1842, and was actively involved in shaping the University. He was subsequently a member of the Senate until he died. A treasurer and Vice-President of the Royal Society, he wrote several astronomical pamphlets, copies of which he gave to Augustus De Morgan and which, through De Morgan, entered the University Library as part of its founding collection. Portrait signed and dated. In gilt gesso frame.
