Person's biographical note:
Ana Maria Pacheco was born in Goiás, Brazil. During 1960–64 she studied sculpture at the University of Goiás, and music at the Federal University. She followed this with further studies in music and education at the University of Brazil in Rio. In 1966 she was appointed Lecturer in Fine Arts at the University of Goiás. She made her first visit to the UK in 1973 on a two-year British Council scholarship to the Slade School of Art, London. Since then she has remained in the UK, becoming Head of Fine Art at Norwich School of Art (1985–89); and awarded an Honorary Degree from the University of East Anglia in 2000. In 2003 she was made a Fellow of University College, London. Pacheco has exhibited her work widely in shows in the UK and abroad. Her solo exhibitions include shows at the Camden Arts Centre and Museum of Modern Art, Oxford (1991); Norwich Castle Museum (1994); the Museu Nacional de Belas Artes, Rio de Janeiro (2000); and the Purdy Hicks Gallery, London (2004). In 2016, an exhibition of sculpture by Pacheco was held in multiple venues in Norwich including the Castle Museum and the Cathedral.
