- Best known as an energetic advocate for the belief that Sir Francis Bacon wrote Shakespeare's plays, Durning-Lawrence (187-1914) amassed the books in the Durning-Lawrence Library at the University of London. These include the first four folios of Shakespeare and are the Library's first major literary special collection. Signed portrait in gilt gesso frame.
