- Brief description:
- A small wooden block with an inscribed metal plaque pined onto it. The inscription on the plaque reads 'The spade was also used to plant trees in the village on 25th March 1938 by the second Viscount Leverhulme to mark his 50th birthday, and by his son the Hon. Philip Lever to commemorate the Golden Jubilee of Port Sunlight and on 3rd March 1948 by the second Viscount Leverhulme to mark his sixtieth birthday, and G. A.S Nairn ESQ. M.B.E to honour the diamond jubilee of Port Sunlight'. This plaque stood at the base of the case that held the original silver spade used by Lady Lever to cut the first sod at Port Sunlight in 1888. The spade itself was stolen in 1992, and the plaque was rescued and passed to the Port Sunlight Village Trust.
