- Object name(s):
- fossil: mammal; EQUIDAE: Equus caballus: horse; horse
- Brief description:
- A probable third phalange or coffin bone of a horse collected at Kents Cavern and donated to RAMM by the British Association for Advancement of Science committee. This bone comes from a creature that lived a wild life, as it dates to over 6000 years before the earliest evidence of domestication of horses. Wild horses were among the favourite prey of the cave hyenas; this complete fossil is a good find as hyenas are capable of crushing bone. This object is not on display.
