- This is a study for the commemoration picture of Queen Victoria’s state visit to Glasgow on 22 August 1888. It took Lavery two years to complete this important commission. The finished painting is now in the collection of Kelvingrove Art Gallery and Museum in Glasgow. During the Queen’s visit, she opened Glasgow’s City Chambers and paid a visit to the International Exhibition which took place in Kelvingrove Park. The exhibition attracted over five million visitors and led to the building of Kelvingrove Art Gallery and Museum. The Queen continued on to Balmoral after her visit to Glasgow. ADOPT AN ARTWORK.
