- Brief description:
- Ford 10 hp mobile NAAFI (Navy, Army and Air Force Institutes) van, 1939. This van is the last survivor of several hundred vehicles specially converted to function as mobile canteens. The original utility coach work was removed and a coach built version added to the rear to increase headroom and interior space. These were then used as mobile canteens by the NAAFI at bases in Britain and all over the world. This particular van was built by the Ford Motor Company in Dagenham in 1939. It is powered by a 10 hp four cylinder petrol engine. After surviving World War Two (1939-1945), the van was part of the NAAFI collection before being transferred to the National Army Museum.
