This parcel hook from a department store in Hackney was used as a handle to carry a parcel of shoes. The silver lettering reads 'Matthew Rose & Sons, Hackney'. A Mare Street institution in its day, the store was built in 1868 and formed part of a vibrant and fashionable shopping area. It continued trading until the site was taken over by Marks and Spencer in 1936.
