Watercolour of a two-level tunnelling shield in operation, digging beneath a river outwards a shaft, with workers and overseers visible. Likely drawn up in preparation for the specification of Marc Brunel's 1818 Patent (no. 4204). Cut from a larger sheet; location of other fragments unknown.

Apparently underwent conservation at the Ashmolean c. 1983, and was mounted by them; remains in the mount. In 2018 underwent conservation funded by the NMCT following acquisition by the Museum.
