Object name(s):
Equus; sp.; Hipparion ?; sp.
Brief description:
A plaster cast of the bones of a pes of a three - toed horse, like Hipparion. The plaster cast is of an articulated assemblage but this time only from the very broad navicular and lateral cuneiform down to the most distal phalanx of the third metatarsal (there is no calcaneum or astragalus like in FS11997). There is the same red - painted matrix and black patches painted on the bones. The red painted matrix again suggests it is a cast of a specimen from a classic site like Kent's Cavern, Torquay. The third metatarsal has 'No.1' written on it in ink.
