- Samples of wood collected during the project to re-create an iron-age log boat, 1991, led by Archaeological Timber Specialist Damian Goodburn, with students from St Andrews University in museum courtyard samples show effects of different tools & techniques some identified ref. project report, St Andrews Uni. Sample 10 (125.1): Adze shaving from levelling gunwales, 15 pieces; Sample 11 (125.2): Debris from auger drilling at bow, a small bag of debris; Sample 7 (125.3): Shavings from Coopers axe, (old Saxon 'T' axe, worn paddle), 13 pieces, Sample 6 (125.4): 9 pieces, axed shaving from making paddle; Unmarked sample (125.5): with an inscription, 'November, 1991, 18 pieces, chips taken from inside of boat, whilst using small adze to roughly shape bottom of inside of boat; sample 1 (125.6): with an inscription, '29.10.91, chips from cutting scores, a big plastic bag of wood, sample 4 (125.7), dated, '31.10.91', cross cutting of waste at bow and stern by axes; sample 3 (125.8), dated 31.10.91, chips from shaping bilges/hull, 25 bigger ones and small portion of fragments
