- Painter, sculptor and stage designer. Son of a naval engineer. Studied at Winchester and Bath Colleges of Art, 1941-42, and the Slade 1946-49. Served in the Navy during the Second World War. Taught at Cardiff College of Art, 1949-62, and at the University of Wales, Aberystwyth, 1962-86, where he was Director of the Visual Art Department from 1973 until 1986. Founder member of the 56 Group Wales. Produced abstract paintings and relief sculptures as well as a series of sculpted heads
