- Bronze coloured metal medal. On the obverse central to the design is a relief bust of Doctor Bernhard Beyer (1879-1966) (see notes below). Encircling this is a border mounted by relief text reading 'DR. BERNHARD BEYER BAYREUTH / 1879 - 31. MAI - 1959'. On the reverse central to the design is relief text reading 'FÜR HERVORRAGENDE / VERDIENSTE UM FREIMAU- / RERISCHE FORSCHUNG UND / WISSENSCHAFT'. Beneath this is a set square and compass. A space has been left above the text for an inscription. Encircling the medal is relief text reading 'VEREINIGTE GROSSLOGEN VON DEUTSCHLAND'.

- Doctor Bernhard Beyer (1879-1966) was a German neurologist and freemason. He founded Lodge 'Quatour Coronati', no. 808 in 1951. It was a masonic research lodge belonging to the United Grand Lodges of Germany. He also published many books on freemasonry.
