- Title:
- Deputy's accident book from Cannock Chase No. 4 Colliery
- Object name(s):
- Notebook
- Brief description:
- Black leather notebook with handwritten descriptions of minor accidents. There is an accompanying description of its discovery from the donor. The notebook was discovered in 1959, by workmen from Cannock Chase no.3 in the last months of the colliery. They knocked through into workings from an old colliery and found this notebook placed on a roof bar in a roadway. The donor records it as Cannock Chase No. 4, but as this closed in 1877, it is more likely that it came from from an old roadway in Cannock Chase No. 5 which was open until 1920. All three collieries were in Chasetown and Chase Terrace. Transcript available.
