charcoal on paper; drawing; Gourds and other Imaginary Fruit; Gourds and other Imaginary Fruit
Brief description:
Still life drawing in charcoal by British artist and sculptor Peter Randall-Page (b.1954). The drawing depicts six objects, identified in the title as gourds and vegetables. They are sketched in a dark chiaroscuro nature, with strong shadows and fluid charcoal marks. Signed by the artist and dated 1989 in the lower right corner. Randall-Page is known for his stone sculptures, inspired by the geometric shapes and patterns of nature. It is likely that this sketch informed his sculpting work. After studying at the Bath Academy of Art (1973-7), Randall-Page undertook a number of significant public commissions, including the regeneration of Castle Park in Bristol and the Eden Project in Cornwall. His public sculptures can also be found in London, Edinburgh and Manchester, and his work is held in many permanent collections such as the British Museum and Tate. He was elected to the Royal Academy in 2015. This object is not on display. Image © Peter Randall-Page
