Apron (dress) for a Grand Standard Bearer.

Brief description:
Rectangular apron with triangular flap, in white leather with a border of ribbed silk, in dark blue. There are three levels in applied gold embroidery and purl, one on the flap and two on the apron. At the centre of the apron is a device of a Grand Standard Bearer, being a pair of crossed banners embroidered in coloured silks. The left is bearing the United Grand Lodge of England coat of arms and the right is bearing the coat of arms of Lumley family coat of arms, consisting of a white background, which has a central horizontal stripe of red. Above are two green and red parrots with a third below (see notes below). This is all within a gold embroidered wreath of wheat and acacia. The apron is lined in blue silk and has a dark blue belt.

The coat of arms embroidered on one of the banners of this apron is of the Lumley family and Lawrence, 11th Earl of Scarbrough (1896-1969) who was Grand Master of the United Grand Lodge of England, the governing body of freemasonry in England and Wales, from 1951-1967.
