- Ceramicist and sculptor. Barnett studied a BA in Fine Art at the University of Newcastle upon Tyne, graduating in 1995, before travelling to Japan to work in 1997 and returning to the UK to complete an MA in Ceramics at the University of Wales Institute, Cardiff in 2001. In 2003 he participated in the International Ceramics Festival in Aberystwyth with his Terminus Firing Project, part of his work with ‘symbolic’ kilns. These kilns shift the emphasis away from the fired objects and make the process of construction and firing of the kiln the artwork in itself. The work in Aberystwyth was a model of the back of the Arts Centre and created a spectacular effect when fired. The work remained on site for over a year but eventually disintegrated.
