Pattern 1853 Enfield rifle musket. Used by British Empire troops from 1853 to 1867, this was known as a rifle musket because it was the same length as a musket, but had a rifled barrel. Adopted by the British Army for its light weight, it could be fired in ranks and allowed an effective accurate range up to 900 yards. It was used by the British Army during the Crimean War (1854 -1856) and the Indian Mutiny (1857-1859).
