- The model is of the 'Gloster-Whittle E28/39' aeroplane which was the first gas turbine jet propelled aircraft in the world to fly successfully, 15th May 1941 at Cranwell. The pilot was P.E.G Sayer OBE. Frank Whittle, the inventor of the jet engine while working for BTH, was from Lutterworth and worked in Rugby. His office was at Brownsover Hall. The model is made from metal and is on a wooden stand.
