Hugh Pattison Macmillan, Baron Macmillan (1873-1952) was the first Chairman of the University of London Court, 1929-1943; the portrait shows him in the Chairman's robes. He was a tireless fund-raiser for the Bloomsbury Site. In 1931 the University awarded him an honorary doctorate. 'One of the great Scottish lawyers who shaped the University of London' - N. Harte.
