- Object name(s):
- Polish Slippers
- Brief description:
- Slippers are an important custom in Poland, with different styles widely made and worn. Although we don’t know where this pair was made, the style is similar to those crafted by the Gorale (highlanders) in Poland. These felted slippers, moulded from wool, are hand embroidered with traditional Polish motifs. Their leather soles bear the stamp ‘135-z1 & 36’. Polish slippers have many different names in their homeland, reflecting their style and regional origin: they are known as papocie or papucie by one of our volunteers; in Poznan, slip-on variants are laczki, and others are known as paputki.
