- Officer’s chapka, Lincolnshire Imperial Yeomanry, 1908 (c).,Formation badge, 14th Army, used by Sergeant T C Waterman, Royal Signals, 1945 (c). Red and black, shield shaped cloth badge with embroidered sword and unit number, in Roman numerals, ‘XIV’. The multi-national 14th Army was created in 1943 and included divisions from Britain, India, East and West Africa and smaller contingents from other British Empire countries. Its badge was designed by its commander General William Slim (1891-1970). As he planned to reconquer Burma from the north the sword points downward. The cross guard of the sword forms an ‘S’ and stands for Slim.
