- A National Grand Lodge of Austrian States was formed in 1784 which presided over Provincial Grand Lodges, including Hungary. However, in 1867 Austria and Hungary became separate countries and freemasonry in Hungary flourished. Initially seven lodges were formed through the Grand Lodge of the Sun, Bayreuth, Germany. By 1870 the National Grand Lodge of Hungary was formed and by 1872 a Grand Orient was also formed by the Grand Orient of France. In order to unite under a single authority the Symbolic Grand Lodge of Hungary was formed in 1886, which absorbed responsibility of the National Grand Lodge and Grand Orient.
