- Sextant which belonged to Cadet Athelstan John Crowther Arkell. Contained within original lockable wooden case with inset brass lid stamped A.J.C.ARKELL. R.N. Brass handle on outside right of box for carrying. Calibration Certificate in lid from National Physical Laboratory, Kew Observatory, Richmond, Surrey. Sextant No. 1023 radius 6.5" named J H Steward, London. Dated August 1909. Sextant is complete and marked with owners name A J C Arkell RN. Ivory plate on grip has pencil inscriptions of degrees and bearings.
