Brief description: The St John Ambulance Association was founded in 1877 as a voluntary organisation originally dedicated to providing emergency help for industrial workers. This was then broadened to providing assistance at public events and the Association essentially remained the foremost provider of ambulance services until the formation of the NHS in 1948.

- A round, silver medal. The obverse depicts the effigy of Her Late Majesty Queen Victoria derived from a bust carved by her daughter, The Princess Louise, Duchess of Argyll with a circumscription. The reverse depicts, between sprigs of St John’s Wort, five circles showing, the Imperial Crown, the Royal Arms, the Arms of The Prince of Wales who was the first Grand Prior under the Royal Charter of 1888, the Crest of that Prince of Wales and the Arms of the Order as they were immediately prior to 1926, with a circumscription.
The ribbon has three black and two white stripes of equal width.
The medal is suspended from a straight bar fixed suspension on an ornate foot fitting positioned at 12 0'clock. It is worn with the bright plated steel brooch with soldered joint and catch on the top reverse of the ribbon.

- Medal commemorating the celebration of St. John attended by the Grand Prior of The Most Venerable Order of the Hospital of Saint John of Jerusalem, Prince Arthur, Duke of Connaught, 24th June, 1926.

- Bronze coloured metal medal. On the obverse central to the design is a left facing bust of Prince Arthur, Duke of Connaught (1850-1942) (see notes below). He is wearing a field marshal uniform with robes of the Order of St John and wearing a badge of the Knight of the Most Venerable Order of the Hospital of Saint John of Jerusalem surmounted by a crown and suspended from a ribbon (see notes below). Encircling this is relief text reading 'ARTHVRVS.CONN:DVX.MAG:PRIOR.IN.BRITT:OMN:OD:HOSP:S:IOHIS:HIER:'. - Prince Arthur, Duke of Connaught (1850-1942) was Queen Victoria's seventh child. He had a military career, beginning with his time at the Royal Military Academy in Woolwich London from 1866 to 1868. He went on to serve several times abroad and held high positions within the military including Commander-in-Chief of both Ireland and the Mediterranean as well as Governor General of Canada. He was appointed a Knight of Justice for The Most Venerable Order of the Hospital of Saint John of Jerusalem (Order of St. John) in c. 1896 as well as obtaining other titles within the Order. He was made Grand Prior for the Order between 1910 and 1939. He was also a freemason, having been initiated on 24th Mar 1874, into Prince of Wales’s Lodge, No. 259.
