- Painter and theatre designer. Studied in Northampton and the Royal College of Art graduating from the latter in 1934. He taught Art History at University College, Aberystwyth, 1936-41, and later taught art at Northampton School of Art. In 1939 he became a member of the Society of Mural Painters. He worked as head scene painter at the Old Vic and Sadler\'s Wells theatres and married the actress Freda Jackson. He painted murals, particularly in churches and hospitals, portraits and figure studies

- Ceramicist. Born in Tokyo, Hirokawa finished his studies at the Ceramics School of Aichi Prefecture in 1968. By the early 1980s he had developed his range of celadon glazed porcelain tableware, but his interest in different clays was growing and he travelled throughout Japan, researching them. He concentrates on making simple and vigorous works with natural materials.
