Bodice fitted, covered with piece of material, reaching over to V over waist band, falling over shoulders and low round neckline, neck filled in with bodice underneath; sleeves, long, top sleeve reaching from below bodice top to above elbow with wide pleated tuck; lower sleeve slightly gathered over elbow; tuck at fitted wrist; waist band; skirt, wide at hem, pleated into waistband at front and gathered at back; hem trimmed with 2 deep tucks backed with white glazed cotton, and central piece of whalebone; skirt backed with brown glazed cotton. Crudely hand stitched. Worn by donor's grandmother in Menai Bridge.

On both sides of this signboard, the boldly painted British warship in full sail is making good speed in a stiff breeze, with its 74 guns run out. Its blue uniformed crew is on deck or aloft and red-coated marines line the poop deck. Judging by the number and type of sails and by the flags it sports at its mastheads – the Union Jack, the Royal Standard (to signify that the King was on board) and Admiralty flag – this First Rate ship-of-the-line is thought to date to the Napoleonic wars.

Black; silk, pinwhale corded weave; large size, short length; bodice separate; low square neckline; front opening with 7 buttons; collar of stiffened chiffon, extending to waist; panels either side of buttons of silk gauze with black embroidery; 1 small pocket at waist; three quarter sleeves, edges trimmed with stiffened chiffon and deep frill of embroidered gauze; 4" gauze embroidered frill at hem, extends about 8" past waist; stiffened with whale bone inserts; lined with black silk; squares of wool covered with cream silk at back of neck and sleeves; frill of white net protruding from neck cut of. Skirt; very wide and short, gores from waist with a few small pleats; slightly gathered at back; long train; hem trimmed with band of stiff chiffon and frill of embroidered lace gauze; hem and train backed with black silk (upper part no lining); pleated silk gauze frill under hem reaching to same level; side pockets.
