Studied at the Central School of Art and Design followed by the Slade School of Art, University of London, where he won first prize for portraiture. He exhibited widely in prestigious solo and group shows in the UK, including the Royal Academy, the New English Art Club, the Royal Society of British Artists, the Royal Society of Portrait Painters and the Royal National Eisteddfod of Wales. He shared his father’s penchant for portraiture and large-scale figure compositions, devoting the majority of his time in his later years to working on large religious subjects. His works are housed in the National Museum of Wales, the National Library of Wales, Newport Civic Centre, Cyfarthfa Castle Museum, Bangor University, University of Wales Lampeter and Aberystwyth University.

- Ceramicist. Dixon studied Fine Art at the University of Newcastle upon Tyne (1976-80) and Ceramics at the Royal College of Art (1983-86). He has written and lectured widely, and his work appears in many public collections. He is now Professorial Research Fellow in Contemporary Crafts at Manchester School of Art. In 2000 he received an Arts Council ‘Year of the Artist’ award for a collaborative project with Amnesty International and Kosovar refugees and his politically engaged ceramic practice was the subject of a major solo exhibition, ‘The Sleep of Reason’, at Manchester Art Gallery in 2005.
