This cotton and flannel shirt was worn by a fifth grade technician of the 115th Infantry Regiment, 29th Infantry Division. The latter formation was a National Guard division from Maryland and Virginia. Known informally as ‘England’s Own’ it was posted to England in 1942. Initially stationed at Tidworth, it later undertook coast watch duties in Devon and Cornwall. On 6 June 1944, the 29th Division formed part of the first wave of landings in the ‘Easy Red’ sector of OMAHA Beach.

- Ford 10 hp mobile NAAFI (Navy, Army and Air Force Institutes) van, 1939.
This van is the last survivor of several hundred vehicles specially converted to function as mobile canteens. The original utility coach work was removed and a coach built version added to the rear to increase headroom and interior space. These were then used as mobile canteens by the NAAFI at bases in Britain and all over the world.
This particular van was built by the Ford Motor Company in Dagenham in 1939. It is powered by a 10 hp four cylinder petrol engine. After surviving World War Two (1939-1945), the van was part of the NAAFI collection before being transferred to the National Army Museum.

The badge of the Army Ordnance Corps consists of a shield charged with the arms of the Board of Ordnance. Below the Garter is a tripartite scroll bearing the unit title.
The Board of Ordnance had been responsible for the provision of supplies until 1855. The Army Ordnance Corps was first established in 1896. At the end of the First World War the unit was granted the title ‘Royal’ and the badge was redesigned.

The Women’s Army Auxiliary Corps (WAAC) was formed in 1917 to free up valuable and experienced soldiers from the rear areas for front line service. The women of the WAAC replaced them, undertaking a variety of roles that were crucial to the war effort. These two women were probably drivers.
