Ralph Lillford enlisted into The Duke of Wellington’s Regiment at Halifax. Following an IQ test he was transferred to the Intelligence Corps and directed to the War Office to learn Russian. He declined and returned to his unit and was sent to Imphal Barracks, York. He was then sent to Wilton Hall, Beaconsfield and passed out as a sergeant of the Royal Army Educational Corps. He was posted to 121 Royal Army Service Corps Supply Platoon and 148 Field Bakery in the Suez Canal Zone.

The Adjutant General’s Corps was formed in 1992 from the Army Legal Corps, Corps of Royal Military Police, Military Provost Staff Corps, Royal Army Educational Corps, Royal Army Pay Corps, Women's Royal Army Corps and clerks from the Royal Army Ordnance Corps and the Royal Electrical and Mechanical Engineers.
The Adjutant General’s Corps has four branches which combined are responsible for Human Resources, finance, accounting, Information Technology support, policing, military prison security, legal services, education and training.

This standard knife bayonet for the US Army's M1 Garand rifle belonged to a fifth grade technician of the 115th Infantry Regiment, 29th Infantry Division.
The 29th Division was a National Guard division from Maryland and Virginia. Known informally as ‘England’s Own’ it was posted to England in 1942. Initially stationed at Tidworth, it later undertook coast watch duties in Devon and Cornwall. In June 1944, the 29th Division formed part of the first wave of landings in the ‘Easy Red’ sector of OMAHA Beach.

Although it was planned to replace Blanco in the mid-1950s, some National Servicemen continued to use it until the end of conscription. It came in four shades - olive green, khaki, dark green and light green plus white. First produced as early as 1875 it was officially approved by the British Army in 1913.

During the late 1990s the Kosovo Liberation Army (KLA) waged a campaign of separatist violence against the Yugoslav security forces and ethnic Serbs from Kosovo which precipitated a Yugoslav military crackdown. The latter operation caused the displacement of thousands of ethnic Albanians, which in turn led to the Kosovo War (1998-1999) and military intervention by The North Atlantic Treaty Organisation (NATO).

The Wolseley helmet was named after the Army Chief of Staff during the late Victorian era, Sir Garnet Wolseley. It consisted of cloth over cork or pith (often from the sola plant). Helmets of this style continued to be used by the military until the 1940s.
